A note on hackers and account security.

Most people are far more likely to be affected by a data breach or a compromised password than by a targeted hacker. A few habits go a long way:

  • Use a password manager and a unique password for every account (see our Scams article for why this matters). Bitwarden's free password generator covers this without needing a separate tool.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication everywhere it's offered.
  • Check haveibeenpwned.com occasionally to see if an account of yours has shown up in a known breach.
  • Be skeptical of unsolicited messages asking you to "verify your account" - go to the site directly instead of clicking the link.
