Stop Big Pharma Thefts

We Americans need immediate relief from drug price gouging, aided in part by Congress's addiction to campaign finance.

Yes our own Congress has a hand in helping drug companies rip off Americans like in no other nation on earth.

We need some changes that actually put people ahead of corporate profit. I've hear all the false tales about stifling innovation etc. and it is bull-crap. in 2016 Pharmaceuticals were as profitable as big banks and earn profit margins as high as 42%. Research shows more money spent by these companies on marketing than on research.

For example Johnson & Johnson’s revenue was $71 billion of which they spend 8.2 on research and more than twice that, 17.5 billion on marketing earning $13.8 billion profits.

The fact that drug companies deliberately rip people off with huge markups is well known in the case of Martin Shkreli bought the drug Daraprim and raised it's price from $13.50 to $750 because he said he could. Then he tweeted that lawmakers were "imbeciles". Well given lawmakers have done nothing about this situation may confirm his observation.

The Hepatitis C treatment Sovalid cost $84,000 for a 12 week course in 2014. Same drug in Egypt sold for $900.

If you have a young child and are wealthy you get to pay $300,000 a year for treatment. The rest of us? If insurance does pay what does that mean to the over all cost of insurance?

I personally was prompted to write this because of the only two meds that treat BPH only Cialis had any effect. Insurance won't cover it and pharmacy wants $1,100 for a 90 day supply. The other option I tried simply does nothing. I'm not wealthy so I have no treatment.

In Europe that same 5mg prescription is $85 for the same FDA approved pill by the same company.

Obviously many people will die without certain drugs. If the GOP get's its way many more will die with the loss of health care for so many millions of less financially secure Americans. What family, absent insurance, can afford to pay more for a 12 week supply of medication than they paid for their homes? As was the norm prior to Obamacare, many lost their homes and filed bankruptcy trying to pay out-of-pocket for unaffordable treatments. Many died anyway leaving children without a parent. This does not happen to the wealthy of course, just to average citizens.

A number of things need to be done.

No tax breaks for any corporation earning such large profits. They want it, but don't need it.

No tax cuts or subsidies to any Corporation not paying income taxes. The GOP likes to complain about the corporate tax rate but the fact is according to Forbes magazine 90% of major US corporations are not paying that at all!  Zero, Nada, Zilch. This is done by passing all profits to the share holders to report on individual returns at the $18% rate for investment income. Lower than you pay on your taxes for your labor.

In general, no tax cuts to any corporation without a carrot and stick approach. Cuts must be tied to a specific performance or lose and repay those cuts to the American people. If their argument is more jobs, actually require those jobs appear in a specific time frame to earn those cuts. Income taxes from new employment must exceed the cost of those cuts. If they fail they repay cuts taken.

Remove any restrictions on Medicare or Medicaid or any other agency with regard to negotiating drug prices.

Open trade with Canada, and the UK to allow Americans to purchase drugs from those nations by mail.

Make changes in patent law to prohibit sneaky back-door means to "renew" a patent for what is really tweaking the same drug unless they drastically lower the retail cost of and continue to offer the original formulation as a condition. Also in the patent process evaluate the costs of R&D vs Marketing.

Prohibit unjustified price hikes of drugs, especially life saving drugs.

All of this harm and destruction brought to the American People is currently supported by Congress who is all to willing to listen to a well paid army of industry lobby giants like PhRMA and others who's best interests are not those of your constituents, but of a wealthy group of corporations.

You don't represent any lobby. Slam the door because they are not there to help the people of this great nation, they are there to help themselves with your help.

Apply a simple test. What I'm about to vote for, will it help or hurt the average American?

For the foreseeable future at least, American won't have a health care system, only an poorly regulated insurance system. Until we can fix that, at least begin to help by fixing drug company rip-offs of the American People you represent.

Hold ISP's accountable.

The FCC has a lot of fraud it wants to use as ammunition to support it's destruction of net neutrality.  It is doing this at the request of the big ISP's like Comcast and AT&T.

The arguments have been made and ISP's lose on ethical and moral grounds, leaving only greed to support their positions. As usual money wants it all and is willing to take it from the people by any means available.

I personally have already switched to a smaller but fast ISP and will be dumping Comcast's ISP service this week.

That said, there is a petition circulating to demand the FCC remove those fake comments which, so far, they don't appear willing to do. ( sign it here )

Why not pin the blame on the ISP's for this atrocity in morality and ethics in an agency who is supposed to protect the people, not the "rich corporations" who bankroll political careers.

FLOOD Comcast, Verizon, AT&T with our own comments and demand they publicly express outrage at FCC for not purging forged comments in their favor.

The GOP voted to trash your privacy

Fake comments supporting abolishing net neutrality flood FCC. Read More
Despite this, FCC votes to trash the internet in favor of big ISPs

As always with the GOP it's about pleasing the wealthy donors and showering with gifts the rest of us pay for, like it or not.

Latest give away ( not signed by Trump yet ) is a law to allow your ISP to spy on you and sell your personal information to anyone they like without your knowledge or permission.

It would allow them to insert ads into your web browser. It would allow them to secretly plant software to try to circumvent measures you may try to instal to protect your self.  Make no mistake this is an attempt to legalise corporate hacking of personal computers and cell phones.  ( Personally I think that would go down in flames in a court of law but who want's to pay for that battle? )

I wrote a letter and sent email to my GOP representative and Senator in DC. Below is a copy. I also added my voice on the White House web site's contact form. This kind of law is a very sharp example of how the swamp works.  Perhaps Trump can be persuaded to veto this theft of privacy of the American People if he gets enough backlash.  Your silence is a reward to the corporate monopoly over your congress.

To: Congressman Yoho, Senator Rubio,

For the first time since Vietnam I am ashamed of my country. It appears your party is leading the charge to divest our citizens of a future, a decent education, clean air and water, health care, workplace safety, right to vote, attacks on media, a decent wage and now our personal privacy.

No wonder Russia invested in a right wing win!

Then you guys snuck it in. Passed a bill clearly a reward to the wealthy corporations who bankroll campaigns. You sold us out, allowing ISP's to gather then sell our personal information, at a profit, without our permission or knowledge. How KGB of you. This, along with threats to Net Neutrality are acts against the average citizen to enrich a small segment of wealthy patrons.

Perhaps you can explain to me how this is good for the typical American, having their privacy exploited for corporate profit? How is this representing the people as opposed to representing a very specific segment of the corporate world?

Is this how America goes down? Is this the plan to dupe us, brain wash us into turning our entire nation over to a small group of the powerful and wealthy? We are almost an oligarchy now. Will you give away your moral fibre to help tip it the rest of the way just to keep your donations and political privilege?

I know the tried and tired arguments that have proven wrong time and again. You guys will be remembered for the misery and shame you create by tearing down our nations people in exchange for cash.

All this will come to haunt you in the coming elections. You are either for the people or for the corporations, it cannot be both.

Weigh what you do and always ask honestly, who does this really benefit and why are we doing this?

Your future actions will demonstrate who you choose to represent.

It is REALLY time to take some security measures of your own. is my site. It provides information on how to protect yourself from the theft of your personal information such as browsing history, email etc.

Global Warming is Real

Sadly we have political leaders more attune to pandering to short sighted greed that their actions could eventually destroy the world's economy and lead to global refugee crisis INCLUDING here in America.

The Antarctic ice shelf is melting at an alarming rate. It is accelerating the rise of sea levels and could approach 6 foot by the end of this century.

Major world cities including New York, Miami, London, Shanghai and countless others could be rendered uninhabitable, sending hundred of millions of refugees surging inland.  Imagine the strain on any economy if all the major centers of commerce, banking and manufacturing collapsed.

Right wing politics in the US today is leading the charge to destruction through a combination of ignorance, greed and  the self preservation of their own political power.

Fossil fuel executives and their minions in our Congress have made the calculation that ignoring, even denying these facts won't matter to them because by the time the world collapses they will be dead and gone.  Screw their children and grand children.  I assume the wealth sponsors of these political hacks believe that their huge bank accounts can protect them from disaster. But what of the collapse of the banking institutions where their own investments lie? What if their money becomes useless because no one is there to buy from?

The majority of the modern world understands the dangers and is trying to take steps.  This is a global crisis and the USA was supposed to be a global leader.  As it turns out, not so much.

Our nation is already compromised by ideological ignorance that places personal gain ahead of the future of this nation and the world.

The current administration and GOP led congress is poised to omit any effort to join the rest of the modern world in efforts to protect future generations.  Greed and the desire for power are more important to them. We elected them so in the end, our demise rests on our own heads.

The biggest danger we face is ignorance, compounded by the problem that the very fact we don't recognize our own ignorance.

We need people in public office as well as industry to lead the charge to protect the only Earth we have. Once we break it it could take thousands or millions of years for it to heal.  Can we wait that long? Can we risk it all for more wealth in an ever decreasing number of hands?

18-23% of all income in US goes to just 1% of our population.  These 1% hold more wealth than the bottom 90% of our citizens.  These are the people who put greed and power ahead of the future of the entire world and are not shy about buying influence from our elected officials. These few at the top consider the rest of us as inferior and unimportant seems evident. Read This.

Read this, it is eye opening.  Let your members of Congress know you want them to protect the planet for future generations and not squander our future to make a small handful of supporters ever richer.

We are in between a rock and a hard place.

Trumps presidency puts all of us in peril as a society that values freedom, truth and fair play.

There are calls to impeach Trump already.  This is not new, people wanted the same of Obama probably because he was "not like us".

Trump may actually be entangled in illegal activities both in terms of the emoluments clause of the Constitution and with regards to his alleged ties to Russia and Putin.

Here's the conundrum.  Do we want Trump removed from office?

Before you shout a resounding "YES" consider this.

The Line of Succession for the president is, Mike Pence, Paul Ryan, Orin Hatch.

Any and all of the above would be more than happy to rubber stamp virtually every anti-middle class, anti-safety net, anti-environment, anti-health care, anti-anything measure congress would but in front of them.

Ask yourself, when was the last time any Republican ever proposed anything that would have a negative impact on the wealthy or corporations? Go on, I dare you to name one. All negative impact is on the shoulders of the average American and every such impact a financial advantage to the top few percent.

Trump, not so sure. For all his negatives he may not be as quick to trample over the middle class as would the others.

In some ways the best we can hope for from Trump is that he will not be a simple rubber stamp for a rush to oligarchy as would the rest who are in ideological lock-step.

Think about what you wish for and remember, the current Senate can still be a bottleneck for some destruction.

It is up to us to be sure to turn out to vote in the mid terms. If we can at least recapture the Senate we have a decent chance to hold off a lot of damage until we can boot Trump out of the white house in 2020.

If ever there was a time to NOT STAY HOME on election day it is for ALL future elections. You stay home you give your choice to someone else to make for you. This is what we got.
